Chinese agent Liu Jian (Jet Li) was sent to Paris to help police detect local drug trafficking syndicates. Because the task is extremely sensitive, the superior did not tell Liu Jian the specific details of the task. After he arrives in Paris, he goes to see Richard, the senior detective of the police department (played by Tch é ky Karyo). The first time Liu Jian came face to face with Richard, he saw him beat a suspect to death. He was actually a member of a drug cartel and premeditated to kill and frame Liu Jian. The vigorous and witty Liu Jian alone repelled the pursuit of dozens of Richard's goons, successfully escaped, and got acquainted with American Jessica (Bridget Fonda Bridget Fonda). Jessica's daughter was held hostage by Richard, and she was coerced by Richard for taking drugs and became a prostitute. Liu Jian was charged with murder because of Richard's false accusation. Forced by circumstances, he and Jessica had to work together to deal with their insidious and cunning opponents.
