The story takes place after the end of the first World War, which causes permanent trauma to Sir Clift Chatteray (James Norton James Norton) and irreparable defects in his marriage to his wife Connie (Holiday Granger Holliday Grainger). In desperation, young Connie could only live under repression all day long. By chance, Connie meets a man named Parkin (Richard Madden Richard Madden), a gardener hired by Sir Chatterai. Connie was uncontrollably attracted by Parkin, who was strong and masculine, and the two quickly came together. In Parkin's strong and overbearing body, Connie regained the meaning and joy of being a woman. However, the good times didn't last long, and just after Connie was pregnant with Parkin's child, Parkin's wife showed up to reveal their affair.
