The powerful pentagonal tragicomedy unfolds from the exquisite hotels in the desolate mountains. Michael è le (Madeleine Robinson), a young woman who came to stay, and her painter boyfriend Roland (Pierre Brasseur), who was waiting for the arrival, was alcoholic and cold. Cricri (Madeleine Renaud), the hostess of the hotel, and Patrice (Paul Bernard), the local rich gentry, have been entangled since their dark past. Julien (Georges Marchal), an engineer who came to help open the mountain to build the dam, stumbled into the Mich è le room and fell in love at first sight. Because of the detailed portrayal of the indulgent hedonism of the ruling class at that time, the film was banned by the French Vichy government during World War II. Today, this film is regarded as the best work of director Jean Gr é millon.
