Manufactured Landscapes (2006)

Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky sets foot in developing countries known as the "factory of the world" under his lens. There are the hard-working assembly line workers of a factory in Fujian, the mountains of e-waste from all over the world in a village in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, the ship-breaking yard in Bangladesh that seems to be full of dead bodies, the Tanggu Port coal mine base in Tianjin like dark clouds, and the magnificent three Gorges Dam project that seems to benefit thousands of generations. Under the impact of the economic tide, human beings are chasing the negligible interests at the expense of the environment, but they do not know that they have already pushed the environment and their own destiny to an end. The film won the Canadian Ginny Award for Best documentary in 2007, the 2007 RiverRun International Film Festival for Best documentary, and the Toronto Film critics Association for Best Canadian Film and Best documentary in 2006.
