The story takes place in 1845, the pace of the western migration has just begun, in order to cross that barren and dangerous wilderness, in addition to the need for enough courage and luck, wisdom is essential. The three families decide to leave their homeland in search of a new life. In order to protect themselves, they find a guide named Mick (Bruce Greenwood Bruce Greenwood), hoping he can escort them to their destination safely. However, as the crowd drifted away on Mick's so-called shortcut, the increasingly desolate scene and the increasingly strange environment let them know that they were lost. Resources are gradually depleted, hunger and panic are gradually eroding people's will, just when people feel desperate, the arrival of a local aboriginal brings new hope, however, they are not sure whether the newcomer is a friend or an enemy.
