Jonast (Jack Gyllenhill) wanders in a small town called Capoanne, the hometown of his late fiancee Diana Frost, Massachusetts in 1973. In a small town cafe, an irrational man shot his wife but mistakenly shot Diana, the waitress. Joe was suddenly plunged into infinite grief. His life was out of order and he didn't know what to do. After the funeral, Joe stays at his fiancee's home and lives with her parents Ben (Dustin Hoffman) and Zhou Zhou (Susan Sarandan). Ben, who lost his daughter, inexplicably hoped that Joe could maintain this relationship with them like his son, and he and Zhou Zhou regarded Joe as another way of getting in touch with their daughter. Ben invited Joe to partner in the development of the town's real estate business, so Joe worked hard to use the success of his career to get rid of the Frost family without hurting them.
