Mr. Pip (2012)

A tropical island with huge copper veins scattered by the war; an eccentric white teacher who refuses to flee with his army opens the story between the cobalt blue sea and the sky. Teacher Wirtz (Hugh Laurie) is curious and mean. After cleaning up the rubble of the school building alone, he begins to read Charles Dickens' masterpiece Great expectations to his children every day. With the sound of gunfire reverberating among the distant mountains all day long, the images of the fog capital of London and the orphan Pip in the novel are increasingly surfacing in the minds of 13-year-old Matilda and other children like breathtaking towers, making them temporarily forget the shadow of war on the island. As Wirtz said, "what you get from books can sustain life even if you forget to breathe." Inspired by Wirtz and his children, more and more residents began to join the ranks of narrators. Those hidden events that were once forgotten are constantly ignited in the dark night, rekindling the glory of the past. But the war is still spreading, and we don't know where this imaginary ark, called Story, will take people who seek refuge every day to survive.
