In the 1840s, Mexico was in chaos. Rebels and revolutionaries control the mountains, while the central government is trying to regain power, and neighboring United States is waiting for a chance to invade. When Ireland lost half its population to scarlet fever, an unusual transatlantic war broke out. 2 million Ireland sailed to the United States in despair. Because the U. S. military promised the Irish to join its army, they could have legal citizenship. At this point, a large number of young Irish Catholics were lured to join the mainly Protestant American army, which was Ireland's only choice. But the reality is not as beautiful as these Irish Catholics thought, and they were subjected to very unfair treatment and persecution in the United States military. Petty Officer Riley, who is also Irish, sympathized with these young people, saved them from the execution ground, and led them to flee the United States. On the Mexican border, the soldiers led by Riley were attacked by Mexican revolutionaries. Persuaded by Mata, a female revolutionary, they were able to survive and recover from their injuries at the base on the mountain. Mata took good care of Riley, and the two began to like each other. But their fledgling relationship was revolutionized.
