The film tells the terrible experience of a woman named Ross in 1945. The story takes place on a farm in Mazuri Lake, Poland. Her husband, a German soldier, was killed during the German invasion of Poland in September 1939, leaving her alone to be raped when Russian soldiers arrived. The Russians want revenge. And the Poles ransacked her farm. All order no longer exists. A retired soldier named Tadus came here from Warsaw. He had been hiding his true identity, but extended a helping hand to Rose.
