In the face of his successful entrepreneur father Charles (Pierce Brosnan Pierce Brosnan), Taylor is full of resistance and blames his brother's suicide and sister's precocious character on his father's negligence. Taylor's relationship with Ellie (Emily Derek Emilie de Ravin) begins with a fight in which Taylor is detained by a policeman (Chris Cooper Chris Cooper). A few days later, Taylor's roommate discovers that the policeman's daughter, Allie, is in the same school as them. Egged on by their roommate, Taylor and Allie began to date. In the face of all kinds of misfortune in life, Taylor chose to protect herself with confrontation, while Allie, who had a similar misfortune with him, enjoyed life with an optimistic and open-minded attitude.
