Lee Holloway (Maggie Gyllenhaal Maggie Gyllenhaal) lives in a disharmonious family and has "self-destructive" behavior since childhood. After returning home from the psychiatric treatment center for a period of time, she wants to reintegrate into normal life. So she learned to type and found a job as a typist in a law firm. At first, Lee had a lot of typing problems, and was discovered by her employer E. Edward Grey (James Spader James Spader) that Grey called Lee to his office. In order to make Lee remember her mistakes, he let Lee lie on his desk, and then he began to pick up the whip and sexually abuse her. Over time, the two developed a wonderful emotion, which on the other hand weakened Lee's tendency to "self-destruct". Lee fell in love with Grey, but Grey was ashamed to let people know his eccentricities, so he fired Lee. Lee's boyfriend Peter (Jeremy Davis Jeremy Davies) asked her to marry him, and she said yes, but on the wedding day.
