The long-established female mystery novelist Sarah Morton (Charlotte Rampling Charlotte Hamplin) is vexed by her new work, and on the advice of publisher John Brand (Charles Dance Charles Dunns), she comes to John's hometown villa to recuperate and look for inspiration. The leisurely life in the country freed Sarah from the tiredness of living in London and enjoyed a rare leisure time. One night, Julie, who calls herself John's daughter (Ludivine Sagnier Lutivan Sanier), arrives unannounced. Julie is cheerful, flamboyant, dissolute and out of tune with staid Sarah. Sarah's creative plan was disrupted, and a trace of ominous smell spread quietly. The film won the 2003 European Film Industry Best Actress Award (Charlotte Hamplin) and the 2003 Bangkok International Film Festival Best Picture Award.
