The 5th Republic (2005)
In October 1979, the shooting of South Korean President Park Chung-hee by Kim Jae-kyu, head of South Korea's Central Intelligence Agency, triggered a military coup across the country and became the most turbulent period in South Korea. The MBC TV series "the Fifth Republic" is about the assassination of President Park and the military coup of General Chun Doo-Wan that ousted the 10th President Choi Kyu-Hah. The play also involves the power struggle between the Democratic Party and the military government, and also tells the story of the 11th President Chun Doo-Wan 's establishment of a new constitutional democratic government, to the opening of the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, and to the behind-the-scenes understanding of the 13th President Roh Tae-Woo, who was later directly elected.
