In 1926, in a cotton field in Georgia, teenager Cecil witnessed his father being shot by a farmer, and racial discrimination cast a lingering shadow in his heart. In the late 1950s, Cecil Gaines (Forrest Whitaker Forest Whitaker), who lingered in Washington, was unexpectedly appreciated by the White House chief of the interior and was elected to the center of national politics to work as a catering service. He remembered his boss's teachings, watched his words, and dissolved himself in the air. In the years that followed, Cecil served Eisenhower (Robin Williams Robin Williams), Kennedy (James Marsden James Marsden), Johnson (Levi Schreiber Liev Schreiber), Nixon (John Cusack John Cusack), Reagan (Alan Rickman Alan Rickman) and other presidents who wrote important strokes in American history. He, the president, his family and his siblings also experienced unforgettable moments around the civil rights struggle of the black people.
