Set in Sicily, Italy in 1860, the film reflects the helpless and inevitable fate of the original rich and powerful and aristocracy in the face of the arrival of a new era and earth-shaking social changes through the mental journey of Prince Sarina. The family of Prince Salina used to live a quiet life. But as the situation changed dramatically, Don Creedy, the prince's nephew, defected to the army of Garibo, a young Italian who was landing in Sicily. Back home, Tancredi fell in love with Anjelika, the daughter of Mayor Sedala at first sight, and the two fell in love with each other and soon got engaged. Sedala promised her daughter a rich dowry, which saved Salina's declining family, and Sedala was complacent about being able to marry a great aristocrat. Since then, Sicily held a referendum, which was unanimously in favour of the merger of Italy. Turin sent an emissary and invited Salina as a representative of the aristocracy to participate in the work of parliament, but Salina refused. The new government did not bring any change to the island, which had been sleeping for more than two thousand years, especially after the defeat of Garibo, the life of Palermo high society was restored and the aristocracy held frequent dances.
