During the American Civil War, the rogue destroyed the stability of the family of Josie Wells (Clint Eastwood) until the family was destroyed. So Josie Wells decided to join the Confederate guerrillas to protect the unarmed. At the end of the civil war, he refused to surrender to the Union army who killed his family and embarked on a road of escape. On the way, he met an old Indian Cherokee chief, a Navajo woman, and a mother and daughter from Kansas.
