A girl named Sasha left Beijing and returned to Nebraska to continue her studies. She soon discovered that she was pregnant as a result of a brief relationship with Yang. Yang, originally a Beijing Opera actor, was kicked out of the troupe because of criticism of his relationship with American man Bao Shen. Now he can only live on the streets of Beijing. Yang no longer contacted Sasha and Bao Shen's lovers, but he didn't know that they were looking for him all the time. Sasha temporarily suspended her studies and went to San Francisco to have an abortion. Then Bao Shen suddenly appeared, and he planned to establish a family with Sasha in order to use Sasha and her baby to tempt Yang to get back together with him. After a lot of things in San Francisco, Sasha began to reflect on her life and future.
