He is called "Red Robinson" in the West. Sidney Rittenberg was born into a Jewish family in Charleston, South Carolina, on August 14, 1921. In 1945, he came to China with the US military after studying Chinese at Stanford University. After the second World War, after the introduction of Li Xiannian and Wang Zhen, and the instructions of Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and others, he became the only American citizen allowed to join Communist Party of China. He stayed in China for 35 years, during which he witnessed the historical stages such as the War of Liberation, the Great Leap forward and the three-year difficult period. In the mid-1960s, Li Dunbai reached the pinnacle of his personal reputation, responded positively to the call of the Cultural Revolution, and then was criticized. He was imprisoned twice on charges of "secret agents" for a total of 16 years, but never wavered his communist ideal. In 1980, he and his Chinese wife, Wang Yulin, returned to the United States with their children and have been running a consulting firm since 1989, with clients including Microsoft, Intel and other American companies. Director Lucy Ostrander, deeply influenced by the upsurge of the left-wing movement in the West in the 1960 s, became a left-wing intellectual youth in the West.
