In Europe, where the shadow of war is not over, the translator and intellectual Ester (Ingrid Turing) went back to Sweden by train with his sister Anna (Gunnell Lindbrom) and Anna's son Johan. On the way, Ester, who suffered from advanced lung disease, fell ill, and the three got off in a small town where they could not communicate with each other and checked into an old hotel. Ester consciously or unconsciously always wants to peek into Anna's life, but has no way to show affection for her, while Anna thinks Ester is her bondage. One night, Anna went out to meet a bartender and returned to the hotel to describe the fantasy sex process and excitement to Ester, causing a fierce reaction. Then, she and the bartender had sex under Ester's nose, which eventually led to the outbreak of Ester, and the past, mixed with resentment and conflict, which had been hidden in their hearts for many years, was recalled.
