The Story of Film: An Odyssey (2011)

Each episode, an hour, a total of 15 episodes, 900 minutes of documentary about the art of film, was produced in 2011. The documentary was shot by Mark Cousins, a British film critic and known as the "film drug trafficker", based on his book of the same name. It lasted five years and spanned six continents, showing nearly 120 years of world film history and nearly 1,000 films. The film tells the history of the film in a cinematic way, exploring how the creation of filmmakers is influenced by specific historical events, and how filmmakers inspire each other. The first two episodes are mainly about the birth and development of early movies, as well as the rise of Hollywood. It was very comprehensive and interviewed some filmmakers, such as Stanley Donnan, Robert Downey, Gus Van Sant, Jane Campion, Claire Dennis. The film is interspersed with a lot of classic old films to explain, as well as some scenes from the modern world.
