This film uses the method of reproducing the incident to recreate a police shooting case in Dallas, Texas, USA in 1976. Director Errol Morris (Errol Morris) interviewed Randall Adams, the suspect sentenced to death and then sentenced to life in prison 11 years later, David Harris, the repeat offender who testified against Adams, the three witnesses in that case, Mr. and Mrs. Miller and Michael Randall, as well as the police, judges and lawyers involved in the case. Through different characters' descriptions of the case from different angles, Morris successfully confirmed Adams' grievances and used the mouth of a public prosecutor in the film to name the police as a "thin blue line" to distinguish a democratic society from a totalitarian society. The release of the film caused great repercussions in the United States. The Texas Criminal Court overturned Adams' verdict. Adams was acquitted in 1989 because Dallas refused to retry the case and later became an active social activist against the death penalty. This film has also become an extremely important film in the history of American documentaries, winning international.
