Usury businessman Bart (Bob Hoskins) takes Danny (Jet Li) in when he is four years old, and from then on makes Danny a loyal wolf dog by training the beast. Bart's daily job is to lead his men and Danny to collect money around. If anyone dares to resist violently, Bart will let go of the collar around Danny's neck-a sign of attack and let the latter defeat him with insolent and ferocious moves. At the end of each mission, Danny was sent back to the dark underground cage. In a fight, Danny comes across Sam (Morgan Freeman), a blind tuner, and is so attracted by the piano that he forgets Bart's task. The angry Bart sent Danny to the death-ending underground ring to make more profits. On the way out of the ring, Bart and his gang were ambushed by their enemies. Danny survived and was taken in by Sam's family. In Sam's house, Danny realized the lack of affection, gradually found his own human side, and began to learn to play the piano. Bart and others recovered after treatment and brought Danny back to the ring again, but Danny was no longer willing to make a fuss and inadvertently found out the truth about the murder of his mother.
