In 1914, boy Albert (Jeremy Elvin Jeremy Irvine) witnessed the birth of Joey the foal in a small town in Devon. It is frequently outbid at the bazaar and eventually acquired by Albert's father Ted (Peter Mulan Peter Mullan) for a sky-high price of 30 guineas, thus offending the landlord with a limp. Albert and Joey had fun and shared it with their friends. However, the good times did not last long, and the landlord came to visit and said that if Joey could not plow the field, he would take it away immediately, so Ted bet on all his possessions. So, under pressure, Albert put on a saddle for Joey, forced him to plow, and even used a whip, but could not bring him to his knees. In order to pay off the debt, Ted ploughed the field himself. He worked hard to get the harvest, but a heavy rain destroyed everything. When the Germans attacked, my father was forced to sell the horse to the cavalry for 30 guineas. Although Albert could not give up, he could only bid farewell to Joey with tears and set foot on the battlefield with an uncertain future. During the war, Joey's owners were constantly changing, from English captains, French farmers and granddaughters to German cavalry, but what he was really waiting for was Albert.
