College sports captain Roddy Bewick (Avonovino) is accused of seducing a waitress and having a baby with him, but he refuses to name the real culprit, his good friend Tim Wakley (Robin Irving). As a result, he is kicked out of school and runs away from home because he is dissatisfied with his father, Sir Bewick (Norman McKinnell), who doubts his innocence. He joined a song and dance troupe, fell in love with a vain actress Julia (Isabel Jones), and soon inherited an inheritance of thirty thousand pounds. He bought the mansion and provided for Julia's profligacy, but Julia hooked up with another actor, Archie (Ian Hunt). In the end, Roddy lost his property and Julia. He was so poor that he danced with him in Paris and ended up in a cheap hotel in Marseilles. The innkeeper took him in because he wanted another fee when he was sent home. Roddy found himself on a freighter, memories of being hurt and deceived flashed in his eyes, and the decline of his life constantly stimulated him. Finally, after several drifting, he finally returned home, waiting for him. Hitchcock once said that one of the scenes showing Novello standing upside down was the wrong of all his films.
