This film is adapted from the Japanese reasoning novelist Edogawa's 1928 novel of the same name. French professor Alex Fayol (Benoit Magime Beno ú t Magimel) is an expert on the mysterious Japanese dark detective novelist Ichiro Hirata. Alex's own detective novel was so successful after it was published in Japan that he was invited to Kyoto to participate in a promotional event. He told Honda (now Gen Shimaoka Shimaoka) that he wanted to meet Ichiro Hirata very much, but several efforts failed. At a dinner party, Alex met Yuko, a famous geisha in Kyoto (played by Yuanlihua Lika Minamoto), and couldn't help falling in love. Yuko told Alex that his old lover was Ichiro Hirada. Moved by love, Alex did his best to help Yuzi out of danger, but he did not expect that he was caught up in an unexpected plot. This film was nominated for the Golden Lion Award at the 2008 Venice Film Festival.
