The story takes place in 1943 when Lucy's husband, Raymond, a French democracy fighter, was arrested by the German Nazis at a conference. Lucy, who was already pregnant, went to work for Ramon at the expense of her own safety. When it didn't work out, she decided and Raymond's comrades-in-arms to rescue Raymond by force, and after careful preparation, they successfully hijacked the van and rescued Raymond.
