David Locke (Jack Nicholson), a famous British journalist, went to North Africa to interview the local anti-government guerrillas, but Locke was unable to reach each other's camp because of the language barrier. Locke returned to the hotel and found Robson, a businessman from the neighboring house he met on the plane, dead. Because of their similar appearance, Locke suddenly decided to change identities with each other, so the news of Locke's death was reported back to China. Rachel, his wife, who was in a frozen relationship with Locke, was calm at first, but soon began to miss her husband. At the same time, Locke contacted some people under the guise of Robertson and found that the businessman secretly traded arms with the North African guerrillas. When Locke moved to Spain, the British producer contacted Rachel to make a film about Locke. Rachel was very concerned about Robson and suggested that the crew look for him. Locke meets a girl who studies architecture in Spain (Maria Schneider), and the two wander together and avoid the British search, going further and further in this identity game. This film won many awards such as the Danish Bodi Award for Best European Film in 1976.
