During World War I, Army Lieutenant Roy (Robert Taylor), who returned home on vacation, met the dancer Mara (Vivienne) on Waterloo Bridge. Just as the couple decided to get married, Roy was called back to the camp and the two were forced to separate. Because she missed the troupe performance, Mara was expelled and had to depend on her friends. Soon Mara was devastated by the news that Roy had been killed. Mara, who lost love, felt that everything was meaningless. In order to survive, she and her friends had to become prostitutes. However, fate made people, at this time Mara unexpectedly met Roy again. Although excited about Roy's survival, Mara was in pain because of her loss of virginity. Mara, who felt everything was irreparable, left and came alone to the place where the two first met-Waterloo Bridge.
